Knowsley Council has revealed ambitious new plans for the redevelopment of the historical Kirkby Golf Course, which has been operational since 1928. The plans, proposed by L32 Trading Limited, aim to transform the site into a modern sporting destination.
Kirkby Golf Course is set to undergo a significant overhaul, with plans submitted by L32 Trading Limited. The proposal includes a new clubhouse, a driving range, and a 9-hole golf course. Founded in 1928, Kirkby’s existing 18-hole layout will be complemented by these new facilities, promising a revitalised experience for both members and visitors.
A series of consultations were conducted with the local community, yielding nine objections and 560 supportive signatures on a petition. Despite some concerns about greenbelt land usage, the proposal is designed to respect the National Planning Policy Framework, ensuring minimal adverse impact on openness.
While certain objections centred around the site’s greenbelt status, L32 Trading Limited has endeavoured to incorporate features deemed appropriate for outdoor sport and recreation, addressing potential environmental impacts.
The proposed development spans 52 acres and includes expansive unused land adjacent to the current site. Plans feature the introduction of a driving range and a practice putting green to enhance player training.
A state-of-the-art, two-storey clubhouse is also included in the development plans. This facility will offer a bar, restaurant, and function area, aiming to create a vibrant social hub for golf enthusiasts.
Moreover, the current clubhouse is set to be transformed into a golf training academy. This initiative is complemented by accommodation facilities for visiting golf professionals, enhancing the site’s appeal and functionality.
The redevelopment is anticipated to bolster the local economy significantly. L32 Trading Limited projects the creation of 65 construction-phase jobs, with an additional 93 jobs created following completion. This promises a positive impact on regional employment.
Community benefits are also highlighted, with the proposal including 35 hours of tuition annually and four paid scholarships for local schools. Such initiatives aim to make golf more accessible to disadvantaged groups within the community.
