According to Chris Kirkham, associate director of the auction house, Hansons Richmond, the demand was exceptional with worldwide interest.
Kirkham observed that the lithographs had a broad appeal due to their vibrant colours and commercial viability. He stated, “They sort of tick a lot of boxes. You’ve got a heavyweight artist that has an enduring appeal.”
Dali’s works are known for their surreal and captivating imagery, making them highly sought after in the art world.
The auction showcased how online bidding has democratized art sales, allowing more private buyers to participate. Kirkham highlighted that online platforms enable competitive pricing and greater accessibility.
“We have one lady that bought three today,” Kirkham noted, emphasizing the growing trend of private individuals purchasing art for personal enjoyment rather than for trade.
