The ProCon Leicestershire Awards, now in its 21st year, celebrates architectural and construction excellence across the region. This year, a trio of remarkable projects from Leicester has been shortlisted, showcasing the city’s commitment to innovation and quality in building design.
Sponsored by Procure Partnerships Framework and Compliance Chain, the Medium to Large Non-Residential Scheme is one of six categories in the 2024 awards.
Submitted by Brackley Property Developments and Leicester City Council, Dock 3-5 is part of Space City, a hub for technology and knowledge-based industries. Docks 3 and 4 offer modern office spaces, while Dock 5 accommodates light industrial uses.
These facilities provide workspaces for approximately 50 businesses, enhancing Leicester’s economic landscape. The development exemplifies the city’s strategic utilisation of the Government’s Levelling Up funding initiatives.
Glenfield Hospital’s new modular ward was designed by Actiform to expand capacity for the University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust. The use of off-site construction allowed the ward to be completed with minimal disruption.
The ward integrates sustainable solutions, being purely electric with installed solar panels and heat pumps, ensuring both functionality and environmental consideration.
This development meets critical healthcare demands while harmoniously blending with the existing hospital architecture.
The Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre in Leicester has undergone a significant expansion, submitted by the Phoenix Leicester Arts Centre. This project has enhanced the centre’s cultural and economic impact, with attendances up by 36% compared to 2022.
The expansion involved extensive refurbishment and a large extension, providing over 1,100 square metres of additional internal space and an external rooftop terrace of 435 square metres.
The development not only amplifies artistic representation in Leicester but also strengthens the centre’s financial and social resilience.
Tom Woolley of Procure Partnerships Framework expressed pride in sponsoring the award, highlighting the nominees’ impact on Leicester’s built environment sector. These projects demonstrate significant innovation and dedication, crucial for regional development.
The public and entities within the region can observe the benefits of these constructions, which offer functional, aesthetic, and economic value to Leicester.
Apart from the Medium to Large Non-Residential Scheme, five other awards will be presented at the ceremony, including Rising Star of the Year, sponsored by Keepmoat Homes, and Large Residential Scheme of the Year, sponsored by MORRO Partnerships.
The awards ceremony, a key event in Leicester’s construction calendar, will be held on November 14 at the King Power Stadium, celebrating the achievements of various sectors.
The recognition of Leicester’s architectural initiatives at the ProCon Awards underlines the city’s contribution to innovative and sustainable development. These projects not only meet contemporary demands but also enhance the cultural and economic fabric of the region.
