Lime Pictures, the acclaimed production company behind popular television series such as Hollyoaks and Geordie Shore, has announced a pivotal change in its leadership. John Whittle, previously the finance director, has been appointed as the new managing director. Whittle succeeds Kate Little and Claire Poyser, who have recently stepped down. This change marks a significant transition for the Liverpool-based company, as it aims to build on its established success.
Founded by Sir Phil Redmond in the early 1980s, Lime Pictures was formerly known as Mersey Television. The company initially gained recognition for producing Brookside, a groundbreaking Channel 4 soap opera. In 2003, Lime Pictures expanded its portfolio by taking over the production of the iconic children’s series Grange Hill. The company has continued to grow, producing a variety of hit reality TV shows, and was acquired by All3Media in 2005.
The ongoing collaboration with creative leaders such as Hannah Cheers, the executive producer of Hollyoaks, and Angelo Abela and Tim Compton, co-heads of the Kids and Family division, underscores the company’s commitment to high-quality programming.
John Whittle’s leadership is expected to play a critical role in steering these innovative projects towards completion. His background in finance and international markets will be instrumental in positioning Lime Pictures to tackle new challenges and opportunities.
Whittle himself expressed enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing his pride in Lime’s strong ties to Liverpool. He stated, “Liverpool is in the DNA of Lime, and I feel very fortunate working in this incredibly creative city.”
Whittle’s appointment comes as All3Media, Lime’s parent company, undergoes changes of its own following its acquisition by RedBird IMI in a £1.15 billion deal earlier this year.
The appointment of John Whittle heralds a new chapter for Lime Pictures as it continues to be a powerhouse in the television industry. His leadership, coupled with the company’s strategic initiatives, is poised to drive future successes.
