Three outstanding housing projects have been shortlisted for the Large Residential Scheme of the Year award at the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.
With more than 230 new homes, these developments in Leicester, Loughborough, and Whetstone are recognised for their significant contributions to housing solutions.
The Saxons, Leicester
The Saxons development in Leicester, submitted by MDA Consulting, stands out as a remarkable transformation of a former HMRC office into luxury apartments.
It boasts 100 one- and two-bedroom apartments, complete with amenities such as a concierge service, workspaces, a gym, a yoga studio, outdoor social areas, secure bike storage, and electric vehicle charging points. This meticulous conversion required careful engineering and design, thus integrating modern facilities with the existing structure seamlessly, enhancing it into a luxurious residence.
The Villers, Whetstone
The Villers project, submitted by Lovell Partnerships, is an affordable residential scheme comprising 78 homes in the village of Whetstone. This development offers 23 different house types, catering to a wide demographic including families and individuals with specific needs.
Featuring one-bedroom wheelchair-accessible flats, two-bedroom dementia-friendly bungalows, and two-to-four-bedroom family houses, it addresses diverse living requirements. The tenure mix includes 39 homes for shared ownership, 27 for social rent, and 12 for supported living purposes. The shared ownership segment attracted a varied age group from 23 to 73 years old.
The Wharf, Loughborough
The Wharf in Loughborough, a submission by HSSP and Solus Homes, represents the third phase of Loughborough’s Waterside Village development.
Consisting of 55 luxury one- and two-bedroom apartments, The Wharf complements its historic counterpart, The Mill, constructed in 1889, and the modern sister building, The Gate. It harmonises with the architectural heritage of The Mill, while asserting a distinct contemporary identity.
