In Wolverhampton, new consultation events are set to showcase an ambitious regeneration plan for City Centre West.
This masterplan, developed by the City of Wolverhampton Council and ECF, aims to revitalise key areas with new housing and commercial spaces.
The proposed masterplan for City Centre West targets four key locations adjacent to School Street, Peel Street, Fold Street, and Birch Street. The project envisions the creation of up to 1,000 new houses, including affordable homes. Adding to the residential space, there will be an enhanced Market Square with green spaces.
The masterplan also features significant commercial space, offering new opportunities for shops, cafés, and restaurants. The aim is to create a vibrant and bustling neighbourhood that serves both residents and visitors.
This blend of residential and commercial development aims to boost the local economy while providing essential amenities for the community.
The development of this masterplan has heavily involved community feedback. Initial engagement sessions in July provided invaluable insights that helped shape the final vision.
Councillor Chris Burden elaborated on this collaboration, emphasising how important resident perspectives were in crafting a transformative plan for Wolverhampton.
This approach aims to ensure that the regeneration project meets the needs and aspirations of the people it intends to serve.
Residents will have the opportunity to engage further through upcoming consultation sessions. These sessions are designed to provide a detailed view of the masterplan and allow for direct interaction with the development team.
Scheduled events include a session on Saturday, September 28, from 1pm to 4pm at The Way Youth Centre, School Street. Another session will be held on Wednesday, October 2, from 12pm to 7pm at Urban Room, Queen Square.
The project is expected to have a significant economic impact by attracting both new residents and visitors. By fostering a vibrant city centre, the masterplan aims to create a thriving economic environment.
Basit Ali, Midlands development director at Muse, highlighted the project’s potential to create real opportunities for both established and new communities.
The development aims to boost the local economy by drawing people into the city centre, making it an exciting place to spend time.
Cllr Chris Burden expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “City Centre West is an opportunity to put people at the heart of the city with new homes, shops, cafés or restaurants.”
He encouraged community members to continue their engagement and share their views to further refine the masterplan.
The masterplan release follows a preliminary engagement period, but further community input will be vital. The development team is committed to working closely with residents to ensure the project’s success.
The masterplan for City Centre West represents a potentially transformative project for Wolverhampton.
Through extensive community collaboration and strategic planning, the initiative aims to revitalise the area with new housing and commercial opportunities, boosting the local economy in the process.
