A new housing development is poised to transform a plot in Blackpool where a house was demolished to facilitate a road scheme. Blackpool Council has received a planning application for nine homes at School Road and Common Edge Road, in the South Shore area.
The proposal consists of eight semi-detached houses and a single detached house. Previously on this site, a dwelling named Southfields was demolished, which was part of an £18.5 million initiative to connect Common Edge Road with Amy Johnson Way.
The architectural design of the proposed houses follows a traditional style, ensuring compatibility with the existing properties in the area. Red brick and tiled roofs have been chosen for construction to match the local architectural ethos.
Each new dwelling is designed to include four bedrooms and a double garage, accommodating modern family needs. This design choice supports the semi-rural aesthetic of Marton Moss, characterised by a diverse array of building styles.
The new road development, scheduled to open in August next year, aims to unlock 10.5 hectares of land for business development as part of the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.

In 2021, planning consent was granted for a two-storey residential building with a detached garage and stables on an adjacent plot. This prior approval included landscaping and site access improvements.
