Aldi has announced a significant expansion plan, cementing its long-term target to operate 1,500 stores across the United Kingdom. This ambitious strategy was marked by the grand opening of its 1,000th outlet in Woking, Surrey. The expansion is part of a broader £1.3 billion investment initiative aimed at capitalising on the growing consumer demand, as nearly two-thirds of the British population now shop at Aldi.
Before the conclusion of 2023, Aldi plans to unveil 20 new locations as part of its aggressive growth efforts. This expansion aligns with the company’s goal to identify promising new sites across the UK, enhancing accessibility and convenience for its customer base.
The next phase of this expansion involves the establishment of 500 additional stores in the coming years. Aldi UK’s and Ireland’s Chief Executive, Giles Hurley, highlighted the significance of this milestone, acknowledging the dedication of the company’s 40,000 employees. He stated, “Opening our 1,000th store is a huge milestone and wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our 40,000 incredible colleagues. Our popularity is growing, and there is huge demand for people to have an Aldi store near to them to increase shoppers’ access to our unbeatable prices.”
Last month, Aldi also announced an ambitious recruitment plan as part of its rapid growth strategy, aiming to hire over 1,700 workers by the year’s end. This recruitment drive spans both full-time and part-time positions, predominantly within regional warehouses, offering salaries of up to £53,000 per annum. The expansion efforts underscore Aldi’s commitment to providing better service to its expanding customer base while supporting local employment.
Aldi’s strategic expansion highlights its dedication to accessibility, affordability, and job creation across the UK.
