Asda is conducting a trials of a new store uniform for over 2,600 employees across 12 locations.
- This marks Asda’s first uniform redesign in over 12 years, featuring ten distinct uniform types tailored to various roles.
- Employees will evaluate the uniforms based on look, comfort, and practicality, offering feedback to inform the final design.
- Special attention is given to fabric choices to enhance breathability, targeting support for menopausal and peri-menopausal staff.
- The redesigned uniforms are expected to launch officially in 2026 after incorporating trial feedback.
Asda has embarked on a significant initiative to trial a new uniform for its store colleagues, the first major redesign in over a decade. The six-week trial involves 2,600 employees across 12 different stores. These employees, spread across various departments such as George, pharmacy, drivers, and bakery, are tasked with wearing the new uniforms during their daily activities to assess their suitability.
The trial includes ten different uniform designs to fit the diverse range of roles within Asda. Employees’ feedback will focus on key areas such as look, comfort, fit, wearability, and ease of washing. This input will play a crucial role in shaping the final uniform design, which is scheduled for an official rollout in 2026.
Particular emphasis during the trial is placed on testing fabrics to improve the uniform’s breathability. This is especially relevant for aiding those experiencing menopausal and peri-menopausal symptoms, by incorporating natural cotton to make the garments more comfortable.
Hayley Tatum, Asda’s Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer, commented on the process, highlighting that their colleagues’ involvement ensures the uniforms meet practical needs and instil a sense of pride amongst those who wear them. “We’re looking forward to hearing their thoughts in the coming weeks and using this insight to shape the final version of the uniform.”
This uniform redesign is part of a broader effort by Asda to enhance conditions for its employees. Last month, the retailer introduced one of the largest workplace savings initiatives in the UK for its 150,000 employees, reflecting its continued commitment to employee welfare.
The insights gathered from this trial will be pivotal in refining Asda’s new uniforms, setting the stage for their launch in 2026.
