Asda has embarked on a significant fundraising initiative aimed at supporting primary schools across the United Kingdom. In just four weeks, the campaign has raised an impressive £3 million. The initiative is spearheaded by well-known TV fitness personality, Joe Wicks, and allows customers to donate 0.5% of the value of their shopping through Asda Rewards to a school of their choosing.
The campaign has garnered substantial participation, with over 21,500 of the UK’s 22,000 state-funded primary schools signing up to benefit from the donations. Notably, more than 15 schools have already received in excess of £1,000 from shopper contributions.
The campaign commenced in September and quickly amassed £1.1 million within the first four days, underscoring the enthusiastic response from the community. Asda has partnered with Parentkind, a charity, to facilitate the success of this initiative.
According to David Hills, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, the funds raised are expected to make a significant impact on the educational experiences of millions of children. He emphasised that the donations will continue through the end of November, potentially increasing the total amount available to invest in schools to £7.7 million.
The initiative is on track to significantly benefit numerous primary schools, enhancing educational resources across the UK.
