Ben Sherman has made a significant step by re-establishing its presence on the UK high street. The British menswear brand, known for its heritage, has opened a 1,300 square foot store in Brighton, where it originally began 61 years ago. Located at 19-20 Dukes Lane, this store marks a return to its historical roots, offering a place for shoppers to explore the brand’s rich history and new collections.
Following the Brighton launch, Ben Sherman is set to unveil a new location at 97 Berwick Street in Soho, London. Opening on 29 August, this 677 square foot store will further enhance the brand’s presence in the capital. This expansion comes after Ben Sherman had to close two of its central London stores in 2020 due to a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) initiated by its former licensee, Baird Group.
In addition to the new flagship stores, Ben Sherman has maintained a flexible retail strategy with a pop-up store located at 76 Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross, which opened in March and continues to operate under a flexible lease. Alongside, the brand runs seven outlet stores across the UK, in locations such as Ashford, Cheshire Oaks, and Dalton Park. This approach reflects Ben Sherman’s adaptability in a fluctuating retail market.
The brand has also gained prominence as the official supplier for Team GB during the 2024 Paris Olympics, which concluded on 11 August. This partnership, covering the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies for the third consecutive time, underscores Ben Sherman’s commitment to British sports and cultural representation on the global stage.
Tim Reid, executive vice president of fashion and lifestyle at Marquee Brands, has expressed optimism about the future. He highlighted the positive brand expansion through new flagship stores and ongoing partnerships. Visitors to the new stores will be among the first to access exclusive collections, including a special limited-edition collaboration set for early September.
The strategic opening of new flagship stores in Brighton and London signifies Ben Sherman’s strong re-emergence in the UK retail sector.
