Champion has announced that Maurizio Donadi will take the role of creative director starting 1 December. With a career spanning 45 years, Donadi’s extensive experience in fashion retail includes senior positions at prominent brands such as Giorgio Armani and Polo Ralph Lauren. He also founded Transnomadica, a vintage fashion retailer in Los Angeles.
In his new position, Donadi will be responsible for directing Champion’s creative vision across all product lines and seasonal collections. He will also work on brand campaigns and collaborations. According to Champion’s Europe CEO, Lorenzo Moretti, Donadi’s knowledge and innovative approach will be invaluable to the brand. “We are confident that Maurizio will honour Champion’s heritage and help redefine its position in the sports and lifestyle sector,” Moretti stated.
This leadership change comes at a pivotal time as the Authentic Brands Group is set to acquire Champion from HanesBrands. The deal, valued between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion, reflects Champion’s strong market presence, with nearly $3 billion in global retail sales annually.
Post-acquisition, AMG Companies will manage Champion’s operations in the US and Canada, while its collegiate apparel business will continue under GearCo. In Central and South America, Champion’s operations will be led by the Falic Group, and IB Group will handle the Mexican market. Expansion plans are underway for Europe, Asia, and Australia, with new brand partnerships anticipated in the coming months.
