Co-op is set to launch a pioneering brand accelerator programme in conjunction with its existing Apiary incubator scheme, designed to foster brand development and growth for smaller suppliers. This initiative demonstrates Co-op’s commitment to supporting suppliers at various stages of their retail journey, providing opportunities for both new and established vendors.
The accelerator programme is a novel addition to the Apiary scheme, specifically targeting both new and existing suppliers to enhance brand diversity and supplier inclusivity. Through this programme, Co-op seeks to support small-scale suppliers by providing valuable access to educational resources such as masterclasses and networking with mentors. Furthermore, participants will benefit from category buyer support and Co-op’s ‘Gift to Give’ initiative, where larger suppliers lend their support to smaller businesses.
For this inaugural wave, ten innovation-driven and purpose-led suppliers have been selected to participate. These include Bio & Me, Brewgooder, Dr Wills, Hip Pop, Nix & Kix, Play in Choc, Pleese Freezecakes, The Jolly Hog, TrueStart Coffee, and Zaytoun. Co-op is keen on collaborating with suppliers who are inclined towards co-operative values, are from under-represented communities, or from diverse demographics.
Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, Co-op’s head of commercial for drinks, frozen, community buying, and the Apiary, expressed enthusiasm about this development. “This is an exciting development, the addition of an accelerator scheme to our Apiary means we can work with small suppliers at different stages of their journeys,” she commented. Oliver-Mooney highlighted the focus on working collectively with challenger brands to support their growth on retail shelves and in the broader market.
The Co-op’s innovative accelerator scheme marks a significant step towards inclusivity and growth for small suppliers.
