Go Outdoors is poised to unveil the largest outdoor retail store in Europe at York’s Vangarde Shopping Park. Set to occupy the space previously held by John Lewis, the store encompasses an impressive 125,000 square feet. This strategic move represents a significant expansion for the JD Sports-owned retailer.
The store, opening on 23 August, will host an extensive collection of 380 brands. Among the familiar names such as Adidas, Dickies, Salomon, Merrell, and Oakley, the retail giant is introducing new brands like Sweaty Betty, Under Armour, Regatta X Orla Kiely, Crewe Clothing, Hunter, Spotty Otter, Thule, and Karcher. This diverse range aims to cater to all outdoor enthusiasts, from casual hikers to professional athletes.
A distinctive feature of this new outlet will be the inclusion of 30 branded concessions, prominently featuring the first concession for Adidas’s hiking and trail running line, Terrex. This addition underscores the retail giant’s commitment to offering a unique shopping experience.
The store’s amenities extend beyond shopping with the opening of the Alpine Café, a new concept eatery that collaborates with local producers to provide fresh, locally-sourced meals. This aligns with the company’s strategy to create community-focused spaces within their retail outlets.
The venture is poised to enhance York’s local economy by creating 42 new jobs. Additionally, 28 employees from the former Go Outdoors York store will transition to the new location. According to Lee Bagnall, CEO of Go Outdoors, the flagship store aims to provide top-tier brands and services to the York community, marking a ‘game-changing’ moment for the company.
The opening of Go Outdoors’ new flagship store in York represents a major milestone in outdoor retail, promising to benefit both customers and the local economy.
