- Farmfoods management has yet to respond to union demands.
Workers at the Farmfoods Solihull distribution centre have announced a planned two-day walkout in response to ongoing disputes regarding pay, working conditions, and union rights. The decision to strike has been supported by the GMB Union, which describes the situation as a ‘dispute over pay, conditions and union rights.’
The GMB Union has reported that efforts to address these issues within the company have so far resulted in a reduction of work rates by over 15%. Allegations from the union also include claims that the management has declined requests for union recognition and fair remuneration.
The anticipated strike is set to occur on the 24th and 25th of September, with an estimated 100 workers expected to join the walkout. This move is seen as a critical step by employees who feel that their demands for improved working conditions are being largely ignored by the management.
GMB organiser Tom Warnett has highlighted the frustration among workers who have supported the company’s growth but now face stagnant pay raises despite meeting demanding targets. Warnett stated, ‘These workers deserve so much better, and it’s time for the company to get around the table before it’s too late.’
Thus far, Farmfoods management has opted not to make any public comments concerning the strike or the issues raised by the union. This silence continues amidst growing discontent among staff who seek recognition for their union and fair pay.
The upcoming strike underscores deep-rooted tensions between Farmfoods staff and management, necessitating urgent dialogue.
