Fenwick’s flagship store in Newcastle has taken a creative turn for its 2024 Christmas window display, drawing inspiration from the classic festive song ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. The windows feature a unique storyline centred around ‘Foggy’, a partridge on an adventurous quest to meet Santa Claus and help his pear tree flourish. This imaginative narrative invites viewers into a world of holiday magic.
According to Paul Baptiste, the head of creative at Fenwick, this year’s exhibit is designed to inject a sense of surprise while maintaining the essence of traditional Christmas imagery. He shares, ‘This festive season, we’re bringing a touch of the unexpected. Our take on the classic Christmas carol honours timeless traditions of a familiar Christmas, while offering a fresh Fenwick perspective, with a dash of surprise.’
Accompanying the visual spectacle is a custom rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, performed by Tyneside band ‘The Unthanks’. This musical partnership with The Glasshouse International Centre for Music adds a harmonious layer to the overall experience, enriching the festive atmosphere for visitors.
The artistic vision for these windows has been brought to life by renowned British illustrator Chris Riddell and the skilled team at Propability, a family-run design and production company. Their collaboration has crafted a dynamic and modern interpretation of a holiday favourite, blending tradition with contemporary flair.
Fenwick’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mia Fenwick, notes the significance of sharing such creativity and craftsmanship with the public, hoping that the displays will draw people to engage with the story both in person and online. ‘Our Fenwick Christmas windows exhibit the talent of iconic British illustrator Chris Riddell and the fantastic family-owned production team at Propability, whose craftmanship has spun a modern take on a festive favourite, ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’,’ she says.
Fenwick’s 2024 Christmas windows in Newcastle offer a fresh yet nostalgic experience, marrying traditional themes with modern creativity.
