Footasylum is expanding its presence in the United Kingdom with the opening of a new store in Aberdeen’s prominent Union Square shopping centre. This new location is part of the company’s ongoing growth strategy, following a series of store openings and expansions across the country, particularly in major cities like London and Birmingham.
The Aberdeen store is strategically positioned on the ground floor of the shopping centre. Previously occupied by USC, it is situated next to well-known brands Superdry and Superdrug. The store covers an area of 7,000 square feet and is expected to enhance the shopping experience in the region by offering a comprehensive range of menswear, womenswear, and junior apparel from popular brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, alongside Footasylum’s own brands like Monterrain, Zavetti Canada, and Dripmade.
A key aspect of this new opening is the creation of approximately 30 new employment opportunities, spanning management, full-time, and part-time roles. This move is seen as a significant contribution to the local economy, bringing new jobs to the area and supporting the company’s mission to make its unique streetwear offering more accessible throughout the UK.
The decision to open the store in Union Square underscores Footasylum’s commitment to selecting prime locations that can attract a diverse customer base. CEO David Pujolar remarked that Union Square is ideal for their first Aberdeen store due to its stature as the city’s largest retail and leisure hub. Pujolar further noted that such locations are critical to achieving the brand’s broader ambition of nationwide availability.
Financially, Footasylum has reported impressive growth, with a 38% increase in EBITDA to £22 million for the year ending January 2024. This financial success has been propelled by increased sales across all channels and has justified the company’s strategy of store openings and expansions. With total revenue rising by 7% year on year, the company continues to experience record growth.
Footasylum’s new store in Aberdeen marks a strategic expansion in Scotland, aligning with their robust financial performance and growth strategy.
