Greggs, a well-known British bakery chain, is poised to open its inaugural Champagne bar at Fenwick in Newcastle. This initiative is described as ‘the UK’s most premium Greggs’ and aims to offer a unique culinary experience by merging traditional bakery offerings with luxury elements.
Launching on 24 October, the Champagne bar will operate in Fenwick’s food hall and will be accessible through reservation until the end of the year, 31 December. This strategic collaboration involves Greggs’ culinary team working alongside Fenwick’s executive head chef, Mark Reid, to reimagine classic Greggs dishes with a contemporary twist.
The menu features traditional Greggs items elevated with modern condiments; the popular sausage roll accompanies a hot honey chilli sauce, while the sausage, bean & cheese melt is complemented by a bloody mary ketchup. Additionally, the Steak Bake, a fan favourite from the previous pop-up event, is paired with a peppercorn aioli.
Champagne offerings include selections such as Bollinger Rosé and Laurent Perrier, providing an exquisite pairing option for baked goods. The highlight is the inclusion of Louis Roederer Cristal, available at £75 per glass or £425 per bottle, catering to discerning Champagne enthusiasts.
In addition to the savoury menu, the bar offers signature cocktails inspired by Greggs’ sweet treats. Notable options include the ‘Yum Yum Twist’, crafted with rum and real Yum Yums, and the ‘Cream Éclair’, featuring vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur. For those preferring non-alcoholic choices, a ‘Peach Melba’ cocktail is available.
Fenwick’s strategic partnerships director, Leo Fenwick, expressed pride in collaborating again with Greggs, emphasising the ‘fun and unique’ customer experience this pop-up aims to create. Similarly, Greggs’ customer director, Hannah Squirrell, is enthusiastic about revisiting this concept after the successful reception of the Bistro Greggs last year.
The launch of the Greggs Champagne bar at Fenwick signifies an innovative blend of traditional bakery fare with upscale dining, promising a memorable culinary experience.
