Harrods has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine if any current employees were involved, directly or indirectly, in the allegations against Mohamed Al Fayed. The allegations, made by dozens of women, accuse the former Harrods owner of rape and sexual assault.
These serious accusations came to public attention following a BBC documentary titled ‘Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods’, which aired on the 19th of September. Since then, approximately 100 women have come forward with allegations related to incidents during Al Fayed’s ownership of Harrods, which spanned from 1985 to 2010.
In response to these revelations, Harrods has not only launched an internal review but is also working closely with Scotland Yard. Harrods’ management expressed being ‘utterly appalled by the allegations of abuse’ and is committed to assisting law enforcement agencies in their inquiries.
Furthermore, Harrods has established a non-executive committee within its board to tackle the issues arising from these allegations. To facilitate claims and provide support, the store has set up a dedicated webpage where current or former employees can report any experiences of sexual misconduct associated with Al Fayed.
The Qatari Royal Family acquired Harrods from Al Fayed in 2010 for approximately £1.5 billion. Despite his passing in 2023, the gravity of these historical allegations continues to impact the iconic luxury store.
Harrods remains vigilant in its commitment to uncovering the truth and maintaining a safe environment for all employees.
