HMV, an established name in entertainment retail, is broadening its horizons with a comprehensive book offering at its Oxford Street store. This represents its first major venture into literature as a prominent element within its retail space. The company has announced that it will dedicate an entire floor of its flagship location to this new initiative, transforming the space into a literary haven.
The new floor, known as the HMV 363 Bookshop, is set to open on 18 November, strategically ahead of the busy festive period. It promises to feature a curated selection of books ranging across music, film, and popular culture. Visitors can expect to find current bestsellers like ‘A Court of Silver Flames’ by Sarah J. Maas, alongside timeless classics like Anthony Burgess’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and George Orwell’s ‘1984’.
Beyond being a retail space, the HMV 363 Bookshop will include a live events stage, intended to engage book enthusiasts through a variety of activities. The selection of books aims to delight both first-time readers and avid collectors with hidden gems.
Doug Putman, the retailer’s owner, expressed his enthusiasm: “Whilst we have sold books online and have a selection in-store, I have always wanted to expand the offering. The new bookshop space at our flagship will be unlike any other on the high street, staying true to our unique HMV concept centered around fans and community.”
While initially focused on the Oxford Street location, HMV plans to look into further expanding its book offerings across its 121 stores throughout the UK. This move underscores the brand’s commitment to fostering spaces where fans of popular culture can connect, explore, and celebrate their shared interests.
HMV’s new venture into literature at its flagship store indicates a strategic expansion, with aspirations to reach book lovers across the UK.
