Mohsin Issa, known for his major role with Asda, in collaboration with Victoria Price, has embarked on an ambitious financial venture to support burgeoning UK start-ups. The creation of Boulder Investco marks their strategic entry into this market, with Issa stepping down from his CEO role in September to focus on this new endeavour.
Boulder Investco, situated offshore in Jersey, serves as the primary investment vehicle for Issa and Price. Within this framework, they have purposefully targeted fast-growing businesses in the second-hand and nutrition sectors. The firm has made a substantial investment in GoThrift, a platform dedicated to second-hand clothing, indicating their confidence in the growth of sustainable fashion and the circular economy.
Furthering their investment strategy, Issa and Price have allocated £10 million to Applied Nutrition, a company in Liverpool which specialises in protein powders. This firm recently gained attention by debuting on the stock market. These investments highlight their discerning approach in choosing sectors with robust market potential.
Mohsin Issa’s track record includes significant ventures alongside his brother Zuber, although Zuber is not involved in Boulder Investco. Previously, the Issa brothers have amassed wealth through noteworthy endeavours like the EG Group and by acquiring Asda in 2020 with TDR. Their entrepreneurial journey began from modest origins in Blackburn, evolving into a nationwide phenomenon.
Victoria Price, with a background as an EY accountant, currently leads Alvarez and Marsal’s private capital division. Her expertise complements this initiative as she aligns with the entrepreneurial spirit at the helm of Boulder Investco. As she expressed to The Telegraph, ‘These investments are aligned to my passion for working with entrepreneurial businesses in the UK.’
Mohsin Issa and Victoria Price’s investments through Boulder Investco underscore their commitment to nurturing promising UK start-ups.
