Kenji, a home and gifting retailer known for its Asian-influenced products, has made significant leadership appointments to support its ambitious growth strategy. Eddie Shepherd, who brings a wealth of retail experience from his nine-year tenure at Clintons, including over six years as CEO, has been appointed as the new managing director. Shepherd joined Kenji in August and is expected to play a pivotal role in driving the company forward.
Suzanne Harlow, with more than two decades of experience at Debenhams and a tenure as CEO of Jack Wills, will serve as the chair of Kenji’s newly established board. Her expertise in international markets and multi-brand strategy is anticipated to support Kenji’s innovation and expansion objectives. This leadership change comes as Kenji plans to significantly increase its brick-and-mortar presence across the UK.
The retailer’s expansion plan includes doubling its high street stores from 10 to 21 by 2025. In addition to this, Kenji is preparing to open a new flagship store in Westfield London, a strategic move aimed at enhancing its market presence. The Warrington and Bury stores are also set for upsizing following the successful opening of the Manchester Trafford flagship store.
Eddie Shepherd expressed his enthusiasm about joining Kenji, stating, “Kenji’s commitment to innovation and customer excellence aligns perfectly with my values, and I look forward to contributing to the company’s growth journey. Together, we will build on the strong foundation already in place and drive the business forward, all while supporting high streets across the UK.”
Derek Yong, Kenji’s operations director, highlighted the combined strengths of Shepherd and Harlow, noting, “Eddie’s extensive retail track record and Suzanne’s strategic leadership experience are invaluable additions as Kenji embarks on its new chapter. Their combined expertise will be instrumental in driving our vision forward, enhancing our market presence, and continuing to deliver exceptional value to our customers.”
These strategic appointments mark a new chapter for Kenji, positioning it strongly for future expansion.
