During the Drapers Supply Chain Summit, experts discussed Lacoste’s sustainable supply chain initiatives.
- Lacoste has mapped out a global sustainability roadmap to enhance its supply chain practices.
- Returns management and carbon emissions were identified as critical areas for sustainability improvement.
- Collaborations with third-party suppliers are crucial to reducing emissions and ensuring compliance.
- Innovative technology aids in resolving logistical challenges for improved efficiency.
At the Drapers Supply Chain Summit, key industry figures highlighted Lacoste’s commitment to sustainability within its supply chain. Stuart Greenfield from Advanced Supply Chain Group and Matt Blackmore from Lacoste outlined strategic approaches to enhance sustainable practices.
Blackmore emphasised the proactive stance companies should take towards sustainability. He discussed the development of a global roadmap for Lacoste, aimed at addressing packaging waste, carbon emissions, and product repairs. He stated, ‘By the end of this year we will have our own roadmap in place.’ Such initiatives underscore the brand’s forward-thinking approach.
The panel identified returns in the supply chain as a significant challenge. Both Greenfield and Blackmore pointed to the necessity of using returned products in an environmentally responsible manner. Greenfield mentioned, ‘How can we salvage those products? By working with charities so things are not going into landfill.’ This approach not only aims to reduce landfill waste but also aligns with broader environmental goals by integrating extended producer responsibility.
The role of third-party suppliers in mitigating carbon emissions was another focal point. Blackmore noted that collaborations with companies like Advanced Supply Chain Group help lower emissions for both non-compliant and compliant stock by centralising stock collection and processing. Greenfield added, ‘Being able to filter that through and get someone else to make it compliant in one delivery… helps to reduce the costs and CO2.’
Furthermore, innovative technology plays a vital role in improving supply chain efficiency. Blackmore explained how technology ensures accurate labelling at distribution centres, reducing logistical issues. He concluded by expressing ambitions for further improvements: ‘Whether it is sustainability or speed to market, there is so much more I want to do for the business.’
Lacoste’s initiatives in sustainable supply chain management reflect a robust commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
