- Repairs are performed by Sojo with a turnaround time of seven to ten days, starting at £5.
- This initiative is part of M&S’s broader strategy to reduce textile waste and achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
- The collaboration forms a key component of M&S’s ‘another life’ initiative, consolidating circularity services.
From August, M&S customers will have the opportunity to utilise a new repair service facilitated by a collaboration with Sojo. This service, accessible through an online hub called ‘M&S fixed by Sojo’, offers a variety of repair options such as zip replacements and invisible knitwear mending. The process is efficient, with items repaired and returned within seven to ten days. Pricing for these services starts at an accessible £5.
This service is a crucial element of M&S’s ‘another life’ initiative, which aims to bring together the retailer’s diverse circularity services into a unified platform. These initiatives include not only the new repair service but also a beauty take-back scheme in association with cosmetics recycler Handle and a well-established clothing donation programme with Oxfam, initially introduced as ‘Shwopping’.
This repair service is supported by M&S’s Plan A Accelerator Fund, demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility by investing £1 million in projects aimed at reducing textile waste and increasing the use of recycled fibres. This investment aligns with M&S’s ambitious target to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
Additionally, M&S launched a postal donation service in collaboration with Oxfam in April, allowing customers to donate unwanted clothing items easily. Richard Price, managing director of clothing and home at M&S, stated that the new service provides customers with straightforward options to prolong the life of their clothes.
Josephine Phillips, the founder and CEO of Sojo, highlighted the significant role of M&S in making convenient and accessible repair services available to the wider public, emphasising that this partnership enhances the call for industry-wide change in the UK.
The M&S and Sojo collaboration is a step towards sustainable fashion, offering practical solutions to reduce waste.
