LVMH, the owner of Celine, has announced that Michael Rider will take over as the new creative director of the French fashion house. This appointment follows Hedi Slimane’s departure after seven years at the creative helm, where he significantly impacted the brand’s modern identity.
Michael Rider is well-acquainted with Celine, having worked there from 2008 to 2018. During this period, he served as the design director for women’s ready-to-wear, reporting to Phoebe Philo, the then-creative director. This return marks a significant moment in Rider’s career as he steps into a more expansive role.
Most recently, Rider was the creative director for Polo Ralph Lauren’s women’s line, a role that honed his visionary talents and strategic design skills. His extensive experience in the fashion industry positions him as an ideal choice to lead Celine’s future creative directions.

Merle stated, “Michael’s vision, creative talent, together with his genuine nature and strong connection to Celine’s heritage make him a natural choice to continue to build a long-lasting success for the maison.”
In his new role, commencing in early 2025, Rider’s responsibilities will broaden to encompass all Celine collections, spanning womenswear, menswear, couture, leather goods, and accessories. This marks a new chapter for the brand as it seeks to further its esteemed position in the luxury fashion industry.
