Mohsin Issa, co-owner of Asda, is stepping back from his executive role to focus on his position as CEO of EG Group. This decision underscores a strategic concentration on EG Group, while still maintaining a significant role within Asda as a co-owner and non-executive board member.
Leadership of Asda will transition to Lord Rose, the current Chair, and Rob Hattrell, a former eBay and Tesco executive. Their combined expertise is expected to steer the supermarket chain effectively during this period of change.
Issa has been commended for his contributions to Asda, notably the expansion into convenience stores and the launch of a widely adopted loyalty app. Lord Rose acknowledged these achievements, highlighting the groundwork laid for a robust IT infrastructure.
Issa expressed confidence in the team at Asda, citing the progress made over the previous years towards creating a larger and more competitive entity. He stated, “I am very proud of the highly experienced team we have built… Given these achievements, I have decided now is the right time for me to step back from my oversight role at Asda to focus on EG Group as sole chief executive.”
Asda is currently seeking a new CEO to lead the organisation through its forthcoming strategic initiatives, with updates expected in due course.
This leadership change marks a new chapter for both Asda and EG Group, aiming to consolidate their market positions.
