M&S has started an extensive recruitment campaign to employ over 11,000 customer assistants to manage increased demand during the Christmas period. This move represents a substantial increase compared to the previous year’s recruitment, reflecting M&S’s investment in store staff hours to improve customer experiences.
The recruitment window opens on 9 October, offering flexible working patterns to accommodate various candidates. Positions will be filled on a rolling basis starting from mid-November.
A major component of this recruitment drive is to support the launch of M&S’s Christmas Food to Order service, which went live on 24 September. This service aims to provide customers with an enhanced holiday shopping experience, supported by the new cohort of seasonal staff.
Sacha Berendji, Operations Director at M&S, remarked: “Our fantastic store colleagues play such a big part in delivering the magic of M&S at Christmas to our customers. And this year we’re recruiting even more colleagues to ensure we’re closer to customers.”
The recruitment campaign not only addresses seasonal demand but also serves as an entry point for careers at M&S. Post-holiday season, many new recruits might be offered opportunities to advance within the company, potentially joining the ‘Stepping Into Team Manager’ programme.
This recruitment initiative underscores M&S’s commitment to enhancing customer service and managing the festive season efficiently.
