British luxury brand Mulberry has achieved B Corp certification, joining prominent UK retailers such as The White Company and Seasalt. This prestigious certification reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices.
Mulberry excelled in the B Impact Assessment (BIA), attaining a score of 87.1 out of 140. This score not only surpasses the B Corp pass mark of 80 but also exceeds the fashion industry average of 80.9. The BIA evaluates brands on governance, workers, environment, community, and customers.
Central to Mulberry’s ethos is its dedication to sustainability, articulated through its five Cs: climate, cultivation, craft, circularity, and culture. The brand is actively working towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, highlighting its forward-thinking approach.
In line with its sustainability goals, Mulberry plans to expand its resale and repair programme, Mulberry Exchange, to nations including Korea, Australia, and Japan. This initiative underscores the brand’s commitment to circular fashion and reducing environmental impact.
Andrea Baldo, appointed CEO of Mulberry in July, remarked, “Mulberry is one of the first global luxury brands to become a B Corp, and this reflects the DNA of the company and the hard work of the teams.” Baldo stresses that this achievement is a milestone in an ongoing journey to positively impact communities and the environment. The brand’s efforts include paying the Real Living Wage and collaborating with suppliers to ensure this standard is met across the board.
Mulberry’s B Corp certification marks a significant step in its sustainability journey, setting a high standard in the luxury fashion industry.
