N Brown Group is undertaking significant staff reductions as part of its organisational restructuring, impacting more than 100 roles at its Manchester headquarters. This decision comes amidst the company’s move towards being taken private by the Alliance family, who have proposed an acquisition.
Consultations regarding these changes began last month involving approximately 200 employees, primarily located at N Brown’s head office in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. The company employs a total of 1,561 people, and the planned job cuts will affect various departments including buying, merchandising, trading, logistics, finance, data, and creative.
A total of 105 positions are set to be eliminated, with 98 staff members from the head office and an additional 7 from the supply chain hub. These employees are anticipated to leave the company by the end of October as part of the restructuring process.
Joshua Alliance, a non-executive director at N Brown, made a purchase offer at 40p per share through Falcon 24 Topco, marking the beginning of the company’s transition to private ownership. However, the company stresses that these layoffs are unrelated to this buyout and were planned beforehand.
A spokesperson from N Brown highlighted the strategic necessity behind these decisions, stating the aim is to return to sustainable growth and unlock the company’s long-term potential. They assured legal compliance during the process, emphasising the importance of supporting affected employees throughout the transition.
The organisational review undertaken by N Brown aims to address current challenges and position the company for future growth.
