Lanvin has made a significant appointment by selecting Peter Copping as their new artistic director. With his role commencing in September, Copping transitions from Balenciaga, where he brought back the couture collection in 2021, after an absence of 53 years. His career commenced at Sonia Rykiel, and his tenure at Louis Vuitton saw him head womenswear under Marc Jacobs’ leadership.
Copping expressed pride and enthusiasm about the new role at Lanvin, acknowledging Jeanne Lanvin as a visionary whose interests paralleled his own. He conveyed his honour in being chosen to lead the new chapter for this iconic house, alongside the atelier and teams.
Eric Chan, CEO of Lanvin Group, voiced confidence in Copping’s exceptional talent and innovative spirit, noting his capacity to reinterpret the maison’s codes. Chan emphasised that Copping is the ideal candidate to meet the evolving needs of Lanvin’s clientele and that his leadership aligns with the house’s new strategic direction.
During his career, from 2009 to 2014, Copping held the position of creative director at Nina Ricci before succeeding Oscar de la Renta as the creative director of his namesake fashion house. These roles underpin his extensive experience and aptitude in high fashion.
The Lanvin Group, owning other brands such as the lingerie brand Wolford, recently appointed Regis Rimbert as CEO. This move aligns with Lanvin’s strategic goals to strengthen leadership and pave the way for innovative directions across its brands.
Peter Copping’s appointment as Lanvin’s artistic director marks a promising new chapter for the prestigious fashion house.
