Primark, a well-established high street retailer, has unveiled plans for a significant expansion in Portugal, marking its 15-year presence in the country with a notable commitment of €40 million. This strategic investment is aimed at expanding its retail infrastructure across Portugal.
Currently operating 10 stores nationwide, Primark is set to introduce four new outlets. These stores are set to open in various locations, including the Allegro shopping centre in Montijo, Centro Comercial Espaço in Guimaraes, Palácio Do Gelo shopping centre in Viseu, and Covilha City Center Retail Park in Covilhã. The addition of these new stores will bring the total to 14, enhancing Primark’s overall retail capacity by more than 30%.
In preparation for this expansion, Primark is also renovating its Colombo store in Lisbon, which is scheduled to open this week. The refurbishment will provide a refreshed interior, allowing for a broader range of fashion, beauty, and homeware products. Additionally, these new and expanded stores will be the first in Portugal to offer self-service checkouts, reflecting Primark’s commitment to modernising its customer experience.
According to Nelson Ribeiro, Primark Portugal’s head of sales, the success of the company is intricately linked to the dedication of its retail colleagues, who have been instrumental in the brand’s popularity and growth in Portugal. Ribeiro expressed excitement about the prospect of continued growth, more job creation, and introducing new customers to Primark’s value-driven offerings.
These strategic developments underscore Primark’s commitment to strengthening its retail presence and customer experience in Portugal.
