Primark has made significant strides in its international expansion by opening four new stores in a single day. These stores, located in the UK, US, France, and Spain, are part of a strategic move aimed at bolstering its global presence.
The UK saw a new Primark store open at Glasgow Fort, marking the retailer’s 21st location in Scotland and 195th in the country. This development is part of Primark’s £100 million investment in the UK this year, which includes new locations at Bury St Edmunds and Teesside Park, as well as several store expansions.
In the United States, Primark added its 10th store in New York at the Queens Center. This opening brings the total number of Primark locations in the US to 28, spread across 11 states, highlighting the brand’s growing influence in the region.
Primark’s entry into France was marked by the opening of a new store in Tours, located at the L’Heure Tranquille shopping centre. This expansion not only introduces the brand to a new market but also creates 100 jobs, contributing to local employment.
In Spain, Primark has expanded its presence by relocating its Leganés store to a more spacious location within the Parquesur shopping centre in Madrid, effectively doubling its size.
According to Primark chief executive Paul Marchant, this initiative symbolises a ‘growth journey’ and is intended to enhance the shopping experience for customers while providing economic benefits to local communities. Marchant emphasised the creation of 580 new jobs and the positive impact of increased store traffic on nearby businesses, a phenomenon he referred to as the ‘Primark halo effect.’
Celebrating its 55th year, Primark now operates 457 stores across 17 countries, solidifying its status as a major player in the global retail sector.
Primark’s recent store openings underscore its commitment to expanding globally and supporting local economies.
