Womenswear retailer Quiz has successfully renewed its £4 million bank facility for an additional twelve months, ensuring continued financial support until 30 June 2025. This renewal comes as the retailer navigates a challenging trading environment, characterized by an 11% drop in revenues year-on-year from 1 April to 31 May, which was in line with previous expectations.
The financial strain has been notably visible in the UK market, where cost-of-living pressures have affected consumer spending since the end of March. Revenues during this period totalled £13.8 million, reflecting the anticipated decrease. However, this has been somewhat counterbalanced by a 12% increase in demand for Quiz products in international markets, underscoring the brand’s global appeal.
While UK store sales have remained stable on a like-for-like basis, the company’s online traffic has been more severely impacted. In response, Quiz has rolled out several strategic initiatives to bolster its presence and sales. This includes listing on Debenhams.com and offering same-day click-and-collect services, adjustments aimed at enhancing customer convenience and accessibility.
Further, Quiz has undertaken efforts to revamp its brand identity, seeking to project a more aspirational image. This has been supported by refreshed marketing activities and a revamp of its buying and merchandising functions, highlighted by the appointment of a new head of merchandising.
In addition to these strategies, Quiz recently launched a 2,500 sq ft flagship store at Manchester’s Trafford Centre. The store aims to offer a premium, boutique ambiance, aligning with the brand’s updated positioning and facilitating a unique customer experience.
Quiz’s proactive strategies and financial manoeuvres underscore its resilience in adapting to and navigating a challenging retail landscape.
