- This event is part of a product placement partnership introduced earlier this year.
- The Victoria Street store facade was hidden behind hoardings since July.
- Argos has renewed its headline sponsorship with the soap opera.
- Sainsbury’s products will integrate into the lives of Weatherfield residents on screen.
A Sainsbury’s Local store is prominently featured on the renowned British soap opera, Coronation Street, marking its debut as part of a strategic product placement initiative. This integration, conceived earlier in the year, aligns with Argos’s continuation as the principal sponsor of the programme.
Until recently, viewers were unable to see the Sainsbury’s store facade on Victoria Street. It had been strategically cloaked behind hoardings since July, a deliberate effort to maintain suspense and interest amongst the audience.
From today, the store will become operational within the show’s narrative, allowing viewers to observe its integration into the everyday lives of the characters. This includes scenes depicting the use of Sainsbury’s signature ‘bags for life’ and other products by Weatherfield’s families and residents.
Laura Boothby, Argos’s head of campaigns, expressed anticipation regarding the on-screen presence, stating, ‘We’re looking forward to watching the Coronation Street cast walk the legendary cobbles into our newest Sainsbury’s Local store.’ Boothby emphasised that customers have been eager to see the store’s introduction, and highlighted the convenience it offers to characters like Ken Barlow and Chesney Brown for quick grocery or Argos order pickups.
The integration of Sainsbury’s Local into Coronation Street is a strategic move blending retail with entertainment.
