- Thai Sweet Chilli joins other flavours like Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn in meeting non-HFSS classifications.
Walkers has re-engineered its Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli crisps to include 18% less salt, a move driven by the increasing market demand for healthier snack options. This initiative was executed without affecting the product’s distinct sweet and spicy taste, as confirmed by Wayne Newton, Walkers’ Senior Marketing Director for the UK and Ireland.
The reformulation is part of Walkers’ broader strategy to innovate and adapt its product range to align with consumer preferences for less salty snacks. At their Beaumont Park site in Leicester, research and development specialists worked meticulously to adjust the seasoning, ensuring the quality and flavour remained intact.
Walkers’ endeavour to produce snacks that are classified as non-high in fat, salt, or sugar (non-HFSS) is evident in this change. The Thai Sweet Chilli variant now finds itself among other Sensations flavours such as Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn, which are also non-HFSS.
By 2025, Walkers aims for 50% of its snack sales to come from healthier alternatives, setting a specific target of 30% from snacks categorised as high in fat, salt, or sugar, and 20% from products sold in small portions under 100 calories per packet.
Walkers’ strategic reformulation of Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli crisps underscores its commitment to health-conscious innovation in snack offerings.
