Sephora has announced its ambitious plan to open 20 new stores across the United Kingdom as part of its strategy to bolster its bricks-and-mortar presence. This move is a part of a broader strategy to not only enhance its physical retail space but also to expand its digital retail channel in the country, according to CEO Guillaume Motte.
Motte revealed to The Times that Sephora aims to achieve this expansion over the next two to three years. The goal is to establish a more substantial footprint in the UK market, which has become increasingly favourable for competition. He stated, ‘We’re probably looking in the next two to three years to have at least 20 stores in the UK.’
The brand, which currently has six operational outlets in the UK, plans its next store launch at Liverpool One, anticipated to open in early 2025. This 6,727 square foot store will feature Sephora’s in-house collection alongside popular names such as Rare Beauty and Makeup by Mario.
Sephora re-established itself in the UK market in 2022 and opened its doors in Westfield Stratford, marking its return to physical retail after its previous exit in 2005. The revitalised strategy focuses on adapting to the evolving landscape of the UK retail market, capitalising on both physical and online shopping experiences.
The upcoming addition at Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, expected this winter, represents part of the immediate expansion strategy, bringing the number of stores to seven. This momentum signals Sephora’s trust in the UK’s improved competitive market environment.
With a strategic expansion plan, Sephora aims to revitalise its presence and strengthen its market position in the UK.
