The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) has announced an exhibition featuring 16 significant looks from Taylor Swift’s illustrious career. The exhibition, titled the “Taylor Swift, Songbook Trail”, will be available from 27 July to 8 September 2024. This event is free of charge and will take place at the South Kensington branch of the museum.
The exhibition will showcase costumes and accessories from Swift’s personal archive. These items represent various phases in her career, from her early country music days to her latest musical projects. Of particular note are the customised cowboy boots from 2007 and the black ruffled shoulder dress seen in her recent music video for ‘Fortnight’.
Additionally, the display will include instruments, music awards, and storyboards, many of which have not been publicly exhibited before. This comprehensive collection offers a detailed insight into Swift’s creative evolution and highlights her impact on music and fashion.
Taylor Swift is currently on the European leg of her two-year ‘Eras’ tour, which has already proven to be a boon for the UK economy. Her performances have resulted in substantial consumer spending, estimated by Barclays bank to be £1 billion, involving ticket sales, travel, accommodation, and related expenses. Following her successful shows in cities such as Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, and London, Swift will return to the UK for additional concerts at Wembley Stadium in August.
V&A senior curator Kate Bailey expressed enthusiasm about the exhibition, saying it offers an opportunity to explore Swift’s musical journey through her distinctive fashion choices. Bailey highlighted how Swift’s songs and costumes often narrate stories, drawing on diverse influences such as art, history, and literature.
The exhibition promises to provide a unique glimpse into Taylor Swift’s creative journey and influence in both music and fashion.
