Recent reports suggest an announcement was made to staff last Friday, indicating plans to shut down operations within the next three weeks. As of March, Ted Baker employed 975 individuals across the UK and Europe and operated 46 stores, excluding concessions. However, shifting business dynamics and economic pressures have led to a forecast of complete store shutdowns, potentially putting numerous jobs at risk.
In 2022, the brand was acquired by Authentic Brands Group (ABG) for £211 million and began operating under No Ordinary Designer Label. Despite the acquisition aiming to revitalise the brand, challenges persisted, leading ABG to appoint Teneo’s senior managing directors, Benji Dymant and Daniel Smith, as joint administrators on 19 March 2024.
Following their appointment, No Ordinary Designer Label entered administration on 22 March, resulting in the closure of 15 stores and nearly 250 job losses. The potential for further closures indicates ongoing difficulties in steering the brand back to stability.
