Tesco rolls out ‘reduced in price, just as nice’ signs to 300 additional supermarkets.
- Initiative aims to help shoppers easily find discounted and quality products while reducing waste.
- Signs highlight fresh produce nearing expiry and seasonal items at reduced prices.
- Survey indicated customer preference for attractive areas to shop discounted items.
- Plans are in place for further expansion of this signage scheme.
Tesco has extended its ‘reduced in price, just as nice’ signage to an additional 300 supermarkets since its initial launch in October of last year. This initiative aims to make it easier for customers to locate discounted products, primarily focusing on reducing food waste while ensuring product quality remains high.
The signs guide customers to fresh produce and other items that are approaching their expiry dates, as well as end-of-season stock. This approach not only benefits shoppers seeking bargains but also aligns with Tesco’s sustainability goals by promoting the sale of perishable goods before they become waste.
Claire Lorains, Tesco’s group quality, technical and sustainability director, stated, ‘At Tesco we have no time for food waste and we do everything we can to reduce it.’ The supermarket chain believes that prominently displaying short-dated items in an appealing manner encourages shoppers to purchase these discounted goods, thereby minimising waste.
A customer survey conducted previously revealed that individuals are more likely to buy ‘yellow sticker’ foods when these items are presented in aesthetically pleasing sections of the store. This feedback has significantly influenced the redesign and rollout of the new signage.
Tesco’s initiative is poised for further expansion, illustrating the supermarket’s commitment to sustainability and value for its customers. By enhancing the visibility of discounted products, Tesco is not only addressing customer demands but also reinforcing its long-standing dedication to reducing food waste.
Tesco continues to strengthen its sustainability efforts by expanding its discount signage initiative to assist customers and reduce food waste.
