Tesco has revealed its plan to open over 150 new Express convenience stores across the United Kingdom within the next three years. This announcement comes as Tesco celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Express model, which first opened its doors in Barnes and Norbury, London, back in 1994. As of today, Tesco operates 2,704 Express stores, a reflection of its ongoing commitment to providing convenient shopping solutions. The upcoming stores will continue this legacy, catering to consumer needs and preferences.
In a historical nod, Tesco has opened a new Express store in Burnt Oak, North London, marking its 2,882nd UK location. This site is particularly significant as it is close to the location where founder Jack Cohen established his first shop in 1929. Kevin Tindall, managing director of Tesco UK stores, articulated the company’s pride in returning to its roots, stating: “I’m delighted that we have come full circle and returned to the street where it all began, with Jack Cohen’s first store in Burnt Oak.”
Additionally, Tesco is enhancing its value proposition in these convenience stores by reducing prices on more than 200 products, including essential items like milk, bread, pasta, and coffee. This strategic price cut aims to attract more customers by offering competitively priced goods, thus broadening their consumer base and market reach.
