Unilever has strengthened its commitment to addressing hygiene poverty by partnering with Tesco and prominent firms Kimberly-Clark, Essity, and Haleon. The collaboration is set to run until 3 October. During this period, for every two hygiene products purchased at participating Tesco stores or online, these companies will donate one additional item to In Kind Direct. This approach amplifies their impact in supporting families who struggle to afford basic hygiene products.
The donated products, which include essentials like shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, and period products, will be distributed to In Kind Direct’s extensive network of over 6,000 charities. This extensive reach is instrumental in addressing the needs of low-income households, who often have to forgo such basic necessities due to financial constraints.
The initiative is expected to donate over one million hygiene items, featuring brands such as Radox, Sure, Persil, Andrex, Bodyform, and Aquafresh. The scale of this endeavour highlights a significant drive to provide necessary support to those in need.
In previous collaborations, Unilever and Tesco, through In Kind Direct, successfully donated over 400,000 items to more than 1,391 charities. This not only demonstrates the success of past efforts but also the potential for continued impact in its current phase.
Research by a consumer goods charity has revealed that nearly half of low-income households have had to go without hygiene products because of affordability issues. This alarming statistic underscores the critical need for initiatives such as this donation drive.
This comprehensive donation effort aims to significantly alleviate hygiene poverty across the UK through strategic partnerships and community support.
