Uniqlo, the renowned Japanese fashion retailer, has announced plans to open its first store in Liverpool at the Liverpool One shopping centre. This development is part of Uniqlo’s ongoing expansion strategy in the UK, highlighting its commitment to increasing its retail footprint in key markets.
Set to open next spring, the new store will take over a 15,000 sq ft space on Paradise Street, which was previously occupied by the premium menswear retailer Tessuti. Tessuti closed after being under Frasers Group’s ownership for 18 months, making room for Uniqlo’s entry in this prime location.
The Liverpool store will add to Uniqlo’s existing portfolio of 20 UK locations, including notable sites in Edinburgh and London, such as Coal Drops Yard and 1 Oxford Street. The store in Westfield White City was also recently revamped as part of their expansion efforts.
Uniqlo plans to open ten new stores in 2024, with further expansion into Italy and France, followed by 15 more openings in 2025 and 20 in 2026. This reflects Uniqlo’s strategic initiative to grow its presence across Europe.
Alessandro Dudech, Uniqlo’s UK Chief Operating Officer, emphasised the importance of selecting strategic locations, stating, “Investing in Liverpool, a leading UK shopping destination, was a natural next step.” His statement underscores Uniqlo’s intentional approach to expansion by targeting significant shopping hubs.
Rob Deacon, director of asset management at Grosvenor, which manages Liverpool One, remarked on the addition of Uniqlo, noting it as a significant enhancement to the shopping centre’s collection of prestigious international brands. His comments reflect confidence in the brand’s ability to attract a diverse customer base.
Uniqlo’s entry into Liverpool marks a significant step in its strategic expansion across the UK and Europe.
