Waitrose, a well-known UK supermarket, has recently joined forces with Just Eat to broaden its reach in the on-demand grocery delivery market. This strategic collaboration is intended to enhance customer convenience by allowing them to order groceries from 229 branches across prominent UK cities, including Birmingham, Glasgow, London, and Manchester.
This new partnership with Just Eat adds to Waitrose’s existing delivery partnerships with Deliveroo and Uber Eats. Such collaborations highlight Waitrose’s commitment to adapting to consumer needs and increasing its market penetration in the on-demand convenience sector.
Earlier this year, Waitrose announced a significant £1 billion investment plan aimed at expanding its convenience offerings across the UK. This includes plans to open up to 100 new convenience stores over the next five years and renovating existing stores to improve customer experience and efficiency.
The John Lewis Partnership-owned supermarket has also innovated with its first delivery hatch at the John Barnes store in Finchley Road, London. This feature enables fulfilment of delivery orders outside regular store hours, catering to the rising demand for flexible grocery shopping options.
James Bailey, executive director of Waitrose, commented on the rising expectations for convenience, stating that the demand shows no signs of diminishing. He expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Just Eat to ensure customers continue to enjoy high-quality and ethically sourced food. Claire Pointon, managing director for Just Eat UK and Ireland, echoed this sentiment, recognising speed as a necessity in today’s consumer landscape.
