Waitrose is poised to introduce its first-ever lunchtime meal deal, launching on 30 August. This new offering presents an affordable option for customers, with a complete meal priced at just £5. Customers can select from a variety of mains, sides, and drinks, including items such as sandwiches, sushi, salads, wraps, fruit, cereal bars, juices, and smoothies. The initiative aims to provide convenience without compromising on quality.
Jennifer Moscardini from Waitrose expressed enthusiasm for the launch, highlighting the demand from customers seeking convenient and high-quality lunch options. This move positions Waitrose alongside other major UK supermarkets that have recently expanded their food-to-go selections.
The introduction of Waitrose’s meal deal comes on the heels of similar initiatives by competitors. Sainsbury’s, for instance, has launched a premium ‘Kitchen Deli’ range in 100 stores, offering a variety of fresh food-to-go items. Meanwhile, Asda has initiated a trial for their ‘Asda Food Hub’, expanding its range of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and snacks in select locations.
Further diversifying its offerings, Waitrose is set to stock frozen products from the Italian brand Zizzi. Starting from 11 September, popular items such as Casareccia Pollo Piccante, Chorizo Carbonara, and garlic bread will be available at approximately 250 Waitrose locations across the UK. This partnership underscores Waitrose’s commitment to providing a broad and diverse product range to its customers.
Waitrose’s introduction of a £5 meal deal marks a significant step in expanding its food-to-go offerings.
