Zara, a prominent fashion retailer, is set to relocate to a spacious new location within Glasgow’s Silverburn shopping centre. This relocation involves moving into a 47,000 square foot space, spread across two levels of the former Debenhams unit. This strategic move is not only a significant expansion for Zara but also a part of the site’s reconfiguration efforts following the closure of Debenhams in 2020.
The lease for this new location is set for 15 years, illustrating Zara’s long-term commitment to enhancing its retail presence in Glasgow. This move is part of a broader redevelopment strategy by Henderson Park, a private equity real estate firm that acquired Silverburn in 2022 for £140 million, in conjunction with Eurofund Group. The restructuring involves creating three new anchor units within the former Debenhams site.
The design of Zara’s new store will align with its other flagship locations, such as the renowned Battersea Power Station store in London. The layout is intended to provide a modern and immersive shopping experience, also enabling customers to pick up online orders, thus supporting the brand’s omnichannel approach.
Christophe Kuhbier, head of investments in Europe at Henderson Park, emphasised that Zara’s updated store signifies the future of physical retail, highlighting an experiential flagship that complements their omnichannel capabilities. This aligns with growing trends in retail where physical spaces are being adapted to integrate digital services and enhance customer interaction.
Alberto Esguevillas, CEO of UK Retail at Eurofund Group, expressed contentment with having secured Zara as a flagship store for the revamped space, stating, “We are delighted to have secured a new flagship Zara for the space, which will be one of their largest stores in Scotland.”
Zara’s move into the expansive former Debenhams site underlines its strategic growth in Scotland, aligning with modern retail trends.
