UK-based manufacturer Aviramp, renowned for its innovative step-free aircraft boarding ramps, has secured another significant contract in Australia, marking a new chapter in its record-breaking year. The company has signed a deal with Australian airline Jetstar to supply a solar-powered Continental ramp for use at Melbourne Airport, further cementing Aviramp’s success in the Australasian market.
This new contract follows closely on the heels of orders from Sydney Airport, which recently purchased four solar ramps, and New Zealand’s Queenstown Airport, which has added two of Aviramp’s Continental ramps to its operations.
Aviramp, which designs and manufactures boarding ramps and bridges for use when aircraft are parked at remote stands, is celebrated for its pioneering step-free, low-angled ramps. These ramps offer a safe, dignified alternative to stairs and separate ambulifts, enhancing accessibility for wheelchair users and passengers with reduced mobility.
The company’s chief executive and founder, Graham Corfield, said the year is on track to be the company’s most successful yet, with global orders 30% higher than in 2023. “The success we are enjoying in Australasia is mirrored across the world. We now have around 650 ramps in operation globally,” Corfield explained.
“In addition to the Melbourne deal, we have secured orders for bridging ramps with Edinburgh Airport. This year alone, our ramps have been supplied to operators in the USA, Europe, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as Australasia,” he added.
One of the standout moments for Aviramp in 2024 was its contribution to the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport during the Paralympic Games, where the company’s ramps were used to ensure accessible travel for athletes and spectators alike. Corfield highlighted that the ramps provided “real independence and dignity to all passengers, regardless of their circumstances.”
He stressed that the aviation industry needs to continue improving the travel experience for all passengers, and Aviramp’s ramps can play a pivotal role in achieving that goal.
Aviramp has also announced the launch of a new service and certification plan for its clients. The service offers an annual inspection and maintenance by qualified engineers to ensure optimal performance of the ramps.
Aviramp’s low-angled ramps, featuring a unique non-slip surface, help improve safety for all passengers while also enhancing efficiency for airlines, airports, and ground handlers. The ramps have been praised for improving turnaround times, streamlining operations, and providing a more accessible and dignified boarding process.
As a holder of the Queen’s Award for International Trade, Aviramp continues to expand its footprint globally, reflecting its commitment to innovation and accessibility within the aviation sector. With this latest deal in Melbourne and a growing presence worldwide, the company shows no signs of slowing down.
