Proteine Resources, an innovative Polish biotech company, has successfully raised €1.36 million in funding from SMOK Ventures and Bitspiration Booster VC. This latest round of investment brings the company’s total funding to €1.8 million as it seeks to revolutionise the animal nutrition market through the sustainable production of insect protein. The firm has set an ambitious target of achieving €62 million in annual revenue from insect protein sales by 2030.
With a scalable production technology already developed, Proteine Resources is set to launch construction of its first factory in 2025, strategically located near sources of insect feed. This initiative comes in response to a projected 60% increase in global protein demand by 2050, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable protein production methods for both animal feed and human consumption.
Co-CEO Bartłomiej Roszkowski emphasised the company’s dedication to climate neutrality and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. His partner, Konrad Włodarczyk, brings 15 years of expertise in autonomous production technology, which underpins their innovative approach. The insects produced by Proteine Resources contain nearly 70% protein and boast 3-5 times more essential amino acids compared to competing products. The company employs a proprietary feeding system based on agri-food by-products, enabling a rapid rearing cycle of just four weeks.
Proteine Resources has also developed patented multispectral analysis technology, which allows for real-time monitoring of insect health and quality. This level of automation not only facilitates large-scale breeding but also ensures consistent product quality and enhanced efficiency. The company aims to provide a nutritious alternative to conventional protein sources in the animal feed and pet food markets, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly industry.
Investors have expressed significant confidence in the scalability of Proteine Resources’ model, with both SMOK Ventures and Bitspiration Booster VC recognising the growing market opportunity driven by increasing climate awareness. The company plans to establish a franchise system for modular factories located near feed sources, aiming to create a global network of autonomous breeding units managed by advanced AI algorithms.
By 2030, Proteine Resources anticipates generating €62 million in annual sales, with its first revenues expected by 2026. To meet anticipated demand, the company is actively securing pre-orders for its products, which will allow it to operate with 80% of its production capacity already reserved for customers, leaving 20% as a buffer to manage fluctuations in demand.
This innovative approach positions Proteine Resources at the forefront of sustainable protein production, addressing both ecological challenges and market needs. As the global focus on food security and environmental sustainability intensifies, the company’s vision for insect protein as a viable solution becomes increasingly relevant, paving the way for a new era in animal nutrition.
