The Biden administration has pledged enduring support to Ukraine, announcing a $375 million aid package. This package nearly doubles the size of previous shipments and includes essential artillery ammunition, air defence systems, and anti-tank missiles, reflecting the urgent military needs of Ukraine.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Joe Biden, along with other global leaders, signed a Joint Declaration of Support for Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine. This declaration commits to providing ongoing support to Ukraine during and after the conflict, demonstrating a sustained international commitment.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also travelled to the US for the United Nations General Assembly and to engage in high-level meetings at the White House. In his UN address, Zelensky condemned Russia’s actions as a ‘colonial war’, drawing parallels to historical injustices imposed by great powers on smaller nations. He underscored the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of such aggression.
During his visit, Zelensky is set to discuss his ‘victory plan’ with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. With nearly $6 billion in unused presidential drawdown authority set to expire soon, the administration is expected to utilise this to enhance Ukraine’s defensive efforts.
