Bob Sutor, renowned for his leadership in IBM’s quantum computing programme, has embarked on a new journey with Cambridge startup Nu Quantum. After nearly four decades at IBM, Sutor’s wealth of experience is anticipated to significantly benefit Nu Quantum’s ambitions of expansion into the US market.
Having served as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Buffalo and worked with the New York quantum group Infleqtion, Sutor’s expertise extends beyond corporate realms, adding depth to his strategic influence at Nu Quantum. Carmen Palacios-Berraquero, CEO of Nu Quantum, expressed that Sutor’s involvement marks a strategic advancement for the company, particularly as it strives to enhance its footprint in the US.
Nu Quantum, in a bid to expand its operations, has successfully raised £7 million and is setting its sights on Los Angeles for its US base. The startup is committed to pioneering the development of a scalable, fault-tolerant quantum network, a move seen as pivotal for the future of quantum computing.
In Sutor’s view, Nu Quantum embodies the essential progress required in quantum computing to unlock its full potential. He stated, “Without quantum networking, we will be limited to small systems that cannot help us achieve Practical Quantum Advantage for the use cases most important to society and industry.” This underscores the crucial role that quantum networking plays in the advancement of this sector, aiming to overcome the limitations of isolated quantum systems.
The addition of Bob Sutor to Nu Quantum’s board signifies a major stride towards achieving scalable quantum solutions and expanding globally.
